BackBendBack

Type: Postcards
Year: 2024

This project features two interlocking postcards connected through a slot-and-tab design. Sent together, the recipient is invited to return the smaller card, creating a cyclical exchange of energy. Inspired by yoga poses, one card depicts a backbend and the other its reverse pose, forming a continuous pattern when placed side by side.

Printed with risograph, each card features natural ink textures that evoke the energy and sweat of yoga practice, emphasizing balance, flow, and the unique nature of each exchange.

The act of sending and receiving postcards mirrors the balance found in yoga practice. Just as each yoga pose is complemented by a counter-pose to restore equilibrium in the muscles, the exchange of postcards between two people from different places creates a reciprocal flow of connection. One action calls for another — sending prompts receiving, and vice versa — forming a continuous, balanced dialogue. This concept highlights the relational nature of correspondence, where each card becomes both an extension and a reflection, much like the body's movements seeking harmony through opposing yet complementary forces.

Someone back bends, and you bend back,
creating a balance of energy!
