A business card is the beginning of every new connection—it represents you and what you’re passionate about. One day, a photographer friend asked me to design her business card. I pondered for a long time, wondering how to tell her story and capture her personality within a single visual composition. How could I, as a designer, merge my visual expertise with my personal understanding of her as a friend to create a business card that is truly hers and hers alone?
Rae, 蕊, meaning "flower stamen," visually connects to the photographer’s name and body tattoos. The composition brings together various flowers, each carrying symbolic meanings—like the mimosa, representing deep sensitivity and rich emotions, and the globe amaranth, signifying the idea that fleeting moments are eternal, making every instant precious. Just as photography captures a single moment, Su becomes the eternal observer who preserves it. Additionally, flowers like the allium and peony symbolize prosperity, wishing for a flourishing career ahead.
Su believes in fortune and superstition, so I chose Riso printing, allowing the business card’s colors to change based on mood or fortune at the time. For instance, according to the Five Elements theory, Su lacks metal and water, so this time, I selected a gold and blue color scheme. In the future, it could be changed to gray or red. This design is more than just a business card—it’s a deeply personal and poetic gesture, a heartfelt blessing for a friend.
