This book starts with the concept of incense, an object that guides people from a religious space into the spiritual realm. As it burns away into trails of smoke, the tangible blends with the intangible.

Centered on the theme of “Transformation,” the book brings together ten articles that explore this idea from multiple perspectives: from the connection between body, dreams, and psychological states in The Cell, to Wolfgang Laib’s sculptural philosophy, and the anthropological notion of liminality.

As you physically tear through the pages, they gradually become shorter, and the ink slowly fades… your hands and eyes work together to perceive time and subtle changes made in the book.

As readers tear the pages away during the process, the opacity of the text gradually diminishes. This fading effect implies the transformation of burning incense, dissolving from a solid physical form into ashes.
Through subtle shifts in text tracking, leading and sizing, the typography simulates the fluid, changing nature of smoke and rising incense ash.
